Our first posting

Bad Woman Yarn started in the delightful little town of Manzanita on the Oregon Coast. I had left the nursing profession in Seattle to pursue a "gentler" life but needed something to keep me busy -- and what better way to indulge my longtime romance with knitting than to open a yarn store. The business blossomed thanks to the local customers and visiting vacationers and second-homers from the Portland and Seattle areas. In the meantime, the family also blossomed. We now have three lovely granddaughters so decided to come home to Seattle to be near them.

We were fortunate to find a new home for the Bad Woman in the Wallingford Center, a renovated schoolhouse with original creaky floors and large windows. We carry a collection ofyarns to suit most tastes -- both knitters and crocheters. Cascade and Skacel, both local companies have been added to our existing lines from Berroco, JCA, Tahki, Lorna's Laces, Noro, Plymouth, Jo Sharp, Classic Elite, Brown Sheep, Manos del Uruguay, Crystal Palace and Sublime to name a few. (Don't ask me to list all our sock yarns.) We have Addi Turbo needles and bamboo needles from Crystal Palace and Russi Sales KA and a full selection of Lantern Moon Rosewood and Ebony needles. Also from Lantern Moon we have baskets, bags and needle cases and DellaQ accessories. Our patterns, magazines and books are kept current with the new trends and designers and we have may free "shop" patterns. We offer beginner classes for knitting and crocheting as well as other project classes. We also host a fun Wednesday evening group and several open knit times during the week.

Our hours are long so it is fortunate that we enjoy being here at times that are convenient to all -- Monday thru Friday, 10 to 8; Saturdays, 10 to 6; and Sundays, Noon to 5 with extended hours for the LYS Tour. We are easy to reach -- just 11 blocks West of I-5 on North 45th with plenty of free parking. The Wallingford Center is excited to be part of the LYS Tour and will join us in our extended hours with live music on Saturday evening. Some of the shops are offering discounts with a stamped LYS Tour Passport. One of our Center neighbors is Trophy Cupcakes which was recently featured on Martha Stewarts's television show. Wallingford is a destination neighborhood with its eclectic shops and great restaurants. We anticipate meeting and visiting with you during the tour. We have one-skein knitting and crochet patterns, delightful yarns and other surprises waiting for you and perhaps we will be able to show off our prized "grand-girls" and reveal the story behind our name.
