When the cat's away...

Lee and Judd are off at Claire's 2 year birthday party.  That leaves myself and Maggie in the store alone.  What shall we do?  Come visit and keep us out of trouble!

World Wide Knit in Public Day

Join other Bad Women at World Wide Knit in Public Day at Olympic Sculpture Park on Saturday, June 14.
To be sure you are properly attired, we will have "Bad Woman Yarn for the Insatiable Knitter"
T-shirts on sale at 50% off with a yarn purchase beginning May 31.

Because many of you missed the LYS Tour, we are also offering a discount on our shop one-skein pattern yarns that were so popular during the tour. They are nice little projects for shamelessly knitting in public.

Kittens invade Bad Woman Yarn

Tuesday Bad Woman Yarn was invaded by six or seven 4-week old kittens. One of the members of our teen knitting group fosters animals from the Shelter and shared these darlings with us. Everyone was thoroughly taken with them especially the children (young and old). Just check them out.

Local Yarn Shop Tour

Thanks to all of  you who visited us during the LYS Tour. We had over 400 of  you drop in over the 4 days. We enjoyed visiting with you and were pleased with all your positive comments on Bad Woman Yarn and our one-skein patterns.
Our daily drawing winners were Stacey, Ariel, Shonna and Lori. Congratulations!
Watch here for upcoming sales and events.
Come back soon!

Meg's Summer WIPs

I'm working on two sweaters right now -- one for the shop and one for me.  For the shop I'm knitting up a child's "Frangipani" from Sublime's gorgeous new pattern book.  I'm using Sublime's "Soya Cotton" yarn, which really is nice to work with.  It's soft and doesn't split as much as cottons often tend to do.
I'm only half-way through the back, but hopefully it'll be ready to show off at the LYS tour.  Come see it this weekend!

The project for me is a KAL with one of our customers, Carole.  We're both making Annie Modesitt's  Corset Tank Top.  I'm using Berroco "Comfort", which is knitting up beautifully.  The pattern is really interesting and fun to knit, but I'm worried my tank is coming out quite small.  We'll see...  :)

Teen Knitting Group Birthday Party

This group of young knitters has been gracing Bad Woman Yarn on Tuesdays and Saturdays since last fall. Each of them has completed several projects and they all are willing to help each other and anyone who drops by.
Today they celebrated Emma's 14th birthday with cupcakes from Trophy Cupcakes and Party just down the hall.
Happy Birthday, Emma!!!

Our first posting

Bad Woman Yarn started in the delightful little town of Manzanita on the Oregon Coast. I had left the nursing profession in Seattle to pursue a "gentler" life but needed something to keep me busy -- and what better way to indulge my longtime romance with knitting than to open a yarn store. The business blossomed thanks to the local customers and visiting vacationers and second-homers from the Portland and Seattle areas. In the meantime, the family also blossomed. We now have three lovely granddaughters so decided to come home to Seattle to be near them.

We were fortunate to find a new home for the Bad Woman in the Wallingford Center, a renovated schoolhouse with original creaky floors and large windows. We carry a collection ofyarns to suit most tastes -- both knitters and crocheters. Cascade and Skacel, both local companies have been added to our existing lines from Berroco, JCA, Tahki, Lorna's Laces, Noro, Plymouth, Jo Sharp, Classic Elite, Brown Sheep, Manos del Uruguay, Crystal Palace and Sublime to name a few. (Don't ask me to list all our sock yarns.) We have Addi Turbo needles and bamboo needles from Crystal Palace and Russi Sales KA and a full selection of Lantern Moon Rosewood and Ebony needles. Also from Lantern Moon we have baskets, bags and needle cases and DellaQ accessories. Our patterns, magazines and books are kept current with the new trends and designers and we have may free "shop" patterns. We offer beginner classes for knitting and crocheting as well as other project classes. We also host a fun Wednesday evening group and several open knit times during the week.

Our hours are long so it is fortunate that we enjoy being here at times that are convenient to all -- Monday thru Friday, 10 to 8; Saturdays, 10 to 6; and Sundays, Noon to 5 with extended hours for the LYS Tour. We are easy to reach -- just 11 blocks West of I-5 on North 45th with plenty of free parking. The Wallingford Center is excited to be part of the LYS Tour and will join us in our extended hours with live music on Saturday evening. Some of the shops are offering discounts with a stamped LYS Tour Passport. One of our Center neighbors is Trophy Cupcakes which was recently featured on Martha Stewarts's television show. Wallingford is a destination neighborhood with its eclectic shops and great restaurants. We anticipate meeting and visiting with you during the tour. We have one-skein knitting and crochet patterns, delightful yarns and other surprises waiting for you and perhaps we will be able to show off our prized "grand-girls" and reveal the story behind our name.
